ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Central Administrative Offices of Life Resources, Inc. is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and energetic individual to fill the challenging position of Program Director for its Therapeutic Adventure Program.  This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a program's administrative, fiscal, clinical, educational and technical components as well as representing the agency with our contracting and licensing agencies, in the community, and with the Board of Trustees.

 

Minimum requirements include a master’s degree or equivalent years of experience; an additional seven years of work experience, with at least five years of supervisory experience in Challenge course settings and work with residential treatment or comparable experience in the juvenile justice, child welfare, or education fields. 

 

Desired requirements include Licensure in Social Work or related field, Challenge Course Manager certification or equivalent work experience. Success in program development/expansion is a plus.

Job Description:
Principal responsibilities involve overseeing Project Adventure’s challenge course technical services. This includes management; job planning and estimating; staffing and scheduling; system administration; practice standards; staff development; sales and customer service support; interaction with other departments; management reporting; and marketing and promotion.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership for Project Adventure technical services to current and prospective operators of challenge course facilities, including:

  • Support Sales and Customer Service Teams to market, sell and deliver course installations, inspections, appropriate training, and repair.
  • Prepare Scopes of Work for installations and repairs; ensure technical accuracy, appropriate time and cost estimates, required materials, subcontract labor, rental equipment, travel time, and other needed resources.
  • Support Sales and Customer Service Teams with communication to clients regarding service description, schedule and required logistics.
  • Maintain an appropriate schedule for field staff - provide in-field leadership and support.
  • Provide technical support to Sales and Customer Service Teams - assist with technical adjustments of installation Scopes of Work.
  • Conduct outdoor and indoor site evaluations (picture/plan/map review and on-site visit).
  • Support Customer Service Team to assure accurate and timely scheduling and invoicing of inspections and repairs.
  • Review course inspection reports for technical accuracy and correct grammar.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of installation materials in Beverly warehouse.
  • Oversee semi-annual inventory of Beverly Warehouse, Covington Warehouse and truck inventory.  Work with accounting and product departments to carry out this process.
  • Support and refine administrative systems, installation practices, quality management.
  • Work effectively with staff throughout the organization to support sales, customer service and business operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skill Requirements:

Requirements for this position include a bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong customer service orientation, excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, high integrity, and strong PC skills are required. Must have challenge course building experience and ability to supervise and counsel experienced field staff.  Adventure programming, course inspection, and service management experience is strongly preferred.

Job Title Asst. Director, Challenge Education/Climbing Wall
Job Description

Purdue University Division of Recreational Sports

This position shall report to and work collaboratively with the Associate Director, Programs to oversee and administer a comprehensive challenge education program that includes both low and high team challenge courses located in a great outdoor location at the edge of campus. This position will also have the unique opportunity in to be heavily involved in the planning and implementation of a new climbing wall facility and program to include; working with architects and climbing wall manufacturer to assist in design decisions, and writing operational/staff procedures. Additonally, assisting  in other aspects of the the planning and opening of a renovated and expanded Student Recreation Center (approximately 400,000 sq. ft.) scheduled to open Fall 2012 will be needed . Overall responsibilities include developing and implementing policies and procedures for both challenge and climbing wall programs that include, but are not limited to, risk management, safety, staff training and development, and creative and innovative programming. Responsible for instructing and certifying staff in CPR/AED/First Aid. Some evening and weekend work is required.

 

Program and administer both the challenge education (low and high team challenge courses), and climbing/bouldering wall programs. Goals include; programming comprehensive and diverse programs that meet the demands of the university and surrounding community while also promoting our mission of teaching healthy lifestyle habits and promoting lifelong learning. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the programs to ensure risk management, safety, learning, teamwork, and participation. Develop and implement regular assessments of the program to measure learning outcomes, development opportunities, customer satisfaction, and participation statistics.

 

Responsible for keeping up to date on all national (ACCT, CWA, etc.) standards related to challenge and climbing wall programs to ensure programs are operating according to, or above standards. Conduct regular and routine maintenance and inspections of all facilities and equipment utilized by above programs. Schedule and coordinate all necessary yearly (or bi-yearly, etc.) inspections by licensed or approved inspectors as needed. Project, propose, and manage the budgets (supplies, equipment, maintenance, part-time staffing) for above programs. Propose appropriate fees for the programs. Process billings and deposits.

 

Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate student and other part-time staff to work in above programs. This includes: ensuring that staff are well-versed in the policies of the division and university; ensuring that staff are properly trained in dealing with emergency situations; teaching staff proper facilitation and climbing wall management skills, customer service, and conflict resolution; and providing on-going training and development opportunities.

 

Work collaboratively across campus and in the community to provide challenge education and climbing programs to student organizations, staff groups, academic classes/learning communities, school and corporate groups, etc. Work collaboratively with the division's marketing staff to promote and market the programs via website, social media, printed materials, etc.

 

Requirements:

Master’s Degree required. Preferred areas of study include student development, outdoor education, recreation management, or related field. Two years of professional or grad assistant experience; preferably in challenge course facilitation or management and/or climbing wall instruction or management. Knowledge of proper risk management policies and procedures in areas of responsibility is necessary. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, service minded and adept at solving problems. Must show ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty. Ability to certify staff in CPR/AED/First Aid or willingness to obtain certification upon employment.  Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills. Proficient in computer software to include word processing, spreadsheet, and electronic communication.

The West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA is currently seeking applicants for the position of Challenge Course Specialist at our Camp Chickami day camp in Wayland, MA.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have current certification in challenge course facilitation, or documented experience and training.  Applicants should have previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp environment, and be comfortable working outdoors.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:  Located just thirty minutes north of Baltimore, Genesee Valley is home to 300+ acres of lakes, woods and farmland used for adventure, environmental and experiential education programs.  Our programs offer a wide range of outdoor activities including team challenges on our ropes course, environmental studies, agricultural studies, archery, canoeing, rock climbing, camping and backpacking. We offer one to multiple day programs for a diverse clientele, which include public and independent schools, college organizations, community groups, youth-at-risk, special needs populations, and corporations.  During the summer, our program expands to include a summer day camp and week-long adventures for children ages 7-17.  Our summer camp programs offer a variety of outdoor activities including the above, plus horseback riding, swimming, fishing and group games.

JOB TITLE / POSITION:  Summer Day Camp Counselor or Facilitator 

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Summer camp counselors provide constant supervision for day campers, second through seventh grade, in groups of 10-12 participants.  They are responsible for teaching or leading activities such as fishing, group games, archery, and ropes course elements.  In addition, they co-lead or assist with activities including swimming, boating, arts and crafts, and horseback riding.  The work day begins at 8:00am and ends at about 5:00pm, with a thirty minute lunch break.  Camp counselors work Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  The ideal candidate will: be interested in the day camp atmosphere, enjoy the outdoors, be willing to work and live with others, and want to contribute to our fun-loving, open-minded and flexible community.  Applicants must enjoy working with children, be responsible, and have a sense of humor.  Experience is not necessary; training will be provided.  First Aid and CPR are required (can be obtained during training period), life guarding certification is a plus. Candidates must be able to successfully complete a background check.  Applicants must be at least 18 (by start of season) or be a high school graduate.
