6.     Maintain safety rules and standards for use of High/Low Ropes course and Climbing Tower.

9.     Responsible for opening and closing of program area at beginning and end of summer.

ROPES COURSE DIRECTOR (1)

Directs and facilitates high and low ropes course and initiative activities. Serve as a support staff to counselors. Qualifications include documentation and/or certification of skills, and experience in ropes course facilitation. Experience with children a plus. Season dates: 6/11/08 - 8/17/08. Seasonal Salary:  $2,000.

ARCHERY DIRECTOR (1)

Supervise and teach archery to cabin groups of up to 8 campers. Serve as a support to counselors and comply with program.  Qualifications include archery experience and National Archery Association Level 1 Instructor certification. Experience with teaching children preferred. Season dates: 6/17/08 - 8/17/08 

Seasonal Salary:  $1,600

TRIPPING DIRECTOR (1)

Implement and coordinate entire backpacking/hiking program.  Responsible for maintaining equipment, record keeping, and adherence to safety standards. Serve as support staff to counselors. Qualifications include trip planning, leadership experience, and knowledge of North Central Washington backcountry.  Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have a current driver’s license with a good driving record.  Wilderness First Aid and CPR (adult & child) certification is required, but training is available.Season dates: 6/17/08 - 8/03/08.  Seasonal Salary:  $1,700. 

HEAD COOK (1)

Plan and cook all meals, maintain supplies, keep food records, meet health standards, and comply with seasonal food budget. Qualifications are experience cooking for large groups or equivalent education.  Must have or obtain Washington Food Handler’s permit. Includes private room.  Season dates: 6/15/08 - 8/03/08. Job Description

Organization: Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines

 

Job Location: Camp Mary Atkinson in Johnston County, North Carolina near Clayton/Raleigh.

 

Dates: June 9-August 10, 2008.  Hours are flexible and may include Monday-Thursday mornings and early afternoons or after dinner time and Friday mornings.  Independent contractor opportunities are also available pre and post camp for weekend Alpine Tower events.

 

Responsibilities:  The Challenge Course Director will be responsible for the planning and implementation of all Alpine Tower and other ground team building initiatives for the summer camp program including:

  • Deliver adventure challenge activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities.
  • Manage and oversee the physical operation of the Alpine Tower facilities and equipment and staff as they assist at the tower.
  • Attend administrative staff meetings.
  • Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff as related to the Alpine Tower.
  • Provide ongoing challenge course training and support to belay staff throughout the summer.
  • Provide other program opportunities based on abilities and interests if possible.

It is preferred that this person live on site and serve as staff in ratio as needed in the evening, however, traveling to and from camp will be considered.  This is a flexible position as climbing activities are planned around the heat of the day and are dependant on the number of campers in the session that are old enough to climb (ages 9and up). 

 

Salary: $350-$550/week depending on hours worked and experience.


Qualifications:  (Minimum Qualifications and Experience)

  • Commitment to the aims and purpose of the Girl Scout Movement
  • Training and experience in teaching Alpine Tower challenge activities.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
  • Leadership experience in both high and low challenge course initiatives and events.
  • Experience facilitating high ropes courses helpful.
  • Successfully pass a background check.
  • Holds current certification as follows (may be renewed during staff training):
  • American Red Cross First aid or higher
  • American Red Cross CPR or higher
  • Certification or documented experience as a challenge course facilitator

CHALLENGE COURSE INSTRUCTOR

 We are currently recruiting for the position of Challenge Course Instructor to work at Camp Harbor View located on Long Island, MA.  Long Island is situated in Quincy Bay, in the middle of Boston Harbor. The island forms part of the City of Boston, and of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.  The day camp will serve campers aged 11 – 14 years.

 Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements a challenge course program that is based on sound educational principals, offers a progression of skills, and is based on the interests and abilities of campers.
  • Develops and monitors safety procedures for both high and low elements of the challenge course program according to BGCB, ACCT and ACA standards including the training of relevant staff and campers.
  • Monitors facilities and equipment under his/her care for needed repairs and replacement.
  • Prepares opening and closing inventories of rope course equipment and supplies, as necessary.
  • Attend daily and weekly meetings, as requested by Camp Director.
  • Other related duties as specified by the Camp Director.

 Qualifications:       

  • Documented knowledge of or certification in the safety procedures of a challenge course program.
  • Documented experience in planning and delivering a high/low ropes challenge course program.
  • Must be able to demonstrate these skills as a condition of hire.
  • Able to engage youth of diverse backgrounds in challenging and exciting programming.
  • Previous experience in a camp setting desired.
  • Ability to set up, adjust and monitor physical equipment in specialty area.
  • Knowledge of use and care of challenge course equipment.
  • Documented experience working with children/youth.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on Long Island, MA and flexibility to work extended hours as required.

Canopy (Zipline) Guide: Canopy Guides are responsible for instructing and leading participant groups on the zip course. This position requires a strong commitment to safety and understanding of risk management. Qualified applicants participate in a training program and must pass both written and on-the-job skill tests. Responsibilities include: leading orientation sessions and conducting proper screening of participants, overseeing the progress of an assigned participant group, conducting visual and physical inspections of the zip course, and providing constant feedback regarding tour quality. Applicants must be able to hike, climb to and rappel from great heights, and have full range of overhead arm movement to pull two people along cables. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required. Applicants must be available to work from mid-April through September.
