PA:Therapeutic Adventure Programming with Technical Challenge Course Skills
): This five-day workshop is designed for alternative school personnel, school counselors/social workers, teachers, clinicians, group home and residential treatment staff who wish to learn how to use this multi-faceted approach to foster adaptive functioning, healthy relationships and positive life outcomes for their participants using ground initiatives, low and high rope challenge course elements. Participants will: Engage in, and assess, adventure-based activities used as a therapeutic tool to promote growth and development in small group settings; Practice and understand the importance of providing a trauma-informed, emotionally, and physically safe environment; Connect Project Adventure Cornerstone philosophies of Challenge By Choice, Full Value Contract and the Experiential Learning Cycle with therapeutic outcomes; Learn techniques and strategies used to enhance transfer of learning through briefing and debriefing; Explore broader perspectives of how adventure can impact people who come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives; Learn basic foundational technical skills for challenge course operations.
