Therapeutic Adventure Programming is the intentional use of adventure experiences by Adventure Practitioners to encourage healthy behavioral changes that are lasting and integrated into the participants’ lives through facilitating both the adventure and processing effectively.

This five-day workshop is designed for alternative school personnel, school counselors/social workers, teachers, clinicians, group home and residential treatment staff who wish to learn how to use this multi-faceted approach to foster adaptive functioning, healthy relationships and positive life outcomes for their participants using ground initiatives, low and high rope challenge course elements.

Participants will:

-Engage in, and assess, adventure-based activities used as a therapeutic tool to promote growth and development in small group settings.

-Practice and understand the importance of providing a trauma-informed, emotionally, and physically safe environment.

-Connect Project Adventure Cornerstone philosophies of Challenge By Choice, Full Value Contract and the Experiential Learning Cycle with therapeutic outcomes.

-Learn techniques and strategies used to enhance transfer of learning through briefing and debriefing.

-Explore broader perspectives of how adventure can impact people who come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

-Learn basic foundational technical skills for challenge course operations.
