Position Summary
The EdGE Primary Youth Development Coordinator – Outdoor Programs, helps deliver Mission Downeast education, leadership, experiential, and mentoring activities to support young people and adults in personal and professional development.
This position primarily supports school day, afterschool programs, and summer camps with a particular focus on students in K-8 grades and programs that use the Cherryfield campus facilities, especially the Challenge Course. The position also supports other Mission initiatives, including Service Tours.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities

Collaborate across EdGE programs to plan, deliver, and lead developmentally appropriate activities for students, families, and community partners with the primary focus on students in K –8th grade; programming includes low and high challenge course activities and other experiential activities.

Collaborate with other departments and programs, including Service Tours, to plan and deliver Challenge Course activities for non-EdGE participants.

Support EdGE Primary programs and students in K-8 grades that participate in EdGE programming.

Connect families to other Downeast Campus programs and resources when applicable

Act as a positive role model and mentor; model appropriate behaviors.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Challenge Course Responsibilities

Ensure that all activities are carried out in a manner consistent with the highest safety standards as outlined in the Challenge Course Local Operating Procedures.

Maintain a positive and safe environment for all Challenge Course participants and staff; use exceptional judgement.

Operate the Challenge Course and perform technical rescues as needed based on safety guidelines outlined in the Mission’s Challenge Course Local Operating Procedures.

Work as team with other EdGE Primary Outdoor Program staff and serve as Challenge Course Lead when scheduled by EdGE Primary Program Director.

Facilitate, supervise and oversee use of the Challenge Course for all groups as scheduled, as part of the EdGE Primary team.

Help maintain, track, and inventory outdoor equipment and keep in safe, working order as detailed in Challenge Course safety protocol based on industry standards.
